As shown on the story page, each of the 5 factions boasts their own unique take on conflict and warfare. Though there are some exceptions, each tends to display a dominant strategy and certain weaknesses. In today’s article, we will explain a bit more of what makes each faction special, and take a look at their themed items present in the Core Set. These items all contain the Unique trait, which reminds players that only a single copy of the individual card may be under their control at a time.
The Imperial Descendants
The divine power present within the Descendant bloodlines gives them the strength needed to overcome any obstacle. With this knowledge, their armies do not worry about supporting each other the same way other factions might. Descendant Champions stand to gain the most when they simply allow their forces to channel the innate power and obliterate the enemies of the Empire.
No item captures the essence of the Empire’s divine heritage like Imperial Legacy. No other faction can utilize Aegis the way Descendants can.
The Elven forests fall under the rule of the High Queen Ceridwen, and the secretive nature of their society combined with their political cunning makes them a challenging faction to understand for many outsiders. While elemental magic is certainly a prominent source of power for the Elves, their true strength comes from their ability to make better use of available resources.
Ceridwen’s Sigil can be found at the edge of her domain, a point where outsiders can bargain for safe passage or risk the Queen’s wrath. To the Elves however, it will always prove advantageous.
The Ancient Speakers
Although the Speaker faction contains worshipers of many ancient and forgotten gods, one of the largest groups is the followers of Aletha. She had been a prominent god of the old pantheon before Altir’s fall, but since the event she had fallen silent.
The nullification abilities of Remnant paladins and the unusual magic of ancient deities make the Speaker faction resistance to all forms of magic. Carrying a relic of Aletha may offer the protection of her blessing, but the secrets of the deity’s secrets are best understood by those who follow her ways closest.
The Stoneguard is an alliance of Humans, Dwarves and Gnomes falling under the rule of the Haldurn King. Centuries within the dangerous mountains and canyons has strengthened their resolve beyond that of any other. Stoneguard ranks contain warrior monks, dragon riders and soldiers forged in the halls of Haldurn itself.
The Symbol of Bromdir represents the fierce devotion to the lawful god and protects those in need. Members of the Stoneguard value this duty above all else, as seen in item’s additional effect of readying them upon its successful activation.
The Guardian Tribes
Long ago, the Guardian Tribes were united under a single banner, defending Valdyria against monstrous beings that poured in through planar portals. In the chaos following the ancient world’s collapse, the Guardian leader vanished. The Tribal legions slowly lost their way and broke apart into the smaller groups who no longer knew their original purpose.
After several centuries, a Champion claiming to be the ancient leader herself has returned and begun to rally the tribes under her banner. The Mark of Guardians is a sign that Otuwa’s eternal pact with the gods remains strong, and her continued presence benefits all who follow her, not just in might - but in courage and resilience as well.
